Shelter & Care: A Legacy of Love

It all started with one man’s heart.

Our dear friend Jerry Harmon—a passionate supporter, a quadriplegic, and a soul who saw with incredible clarity—discovered a small orphanage in Uganda. He couldn’t walk, but his compassion carried him across oceans. He urged our Vice President, Jim, to visit the children of Transform the Needy Child (TTNC) while our team was in Uganda for a water well drilling mission in 2022.

What Jim and our team found took our breath away: 68 children, from toddlers to teens, living without even the most basic necessities—no beds, no nets, no doors. Vulnerable to malaria, illness, and unthinkable dangers. Yet, there was laughter. There was kindness. And there was love—a fierce love from young, underpaid caregivers doing all they could with what little they had.

We knew we couldn’t just walk away.

We bought mats. We hung mosquito nets. We began regular food deliveries and medical visits. We enrolled as many children as possible in school. And from that moment, the dream to build them a true home was born.

Three years later—after tireless fundraising, visits, planning, and prayer—we broke ground on April 15th, 2025.

This new facility will house 72 children and become a place of learning, healing, and hope. A place where futures are shaped. A place where a child who dreams of being a doctor can study in safety—and thrive.

Sadly, Jerry passed away before he could see this dream realized. But we believe he’s watching, proud and full of joy, as his spark of compassion turns into a blazing light for generations to come.

Shelter & Care was born from this journey—an expanding initiative that now includes another orphanage, Unitas in Tanzania. It’s not just a project. It’s a promise: to protect, nurture, and equip children who deserve to grow up with safety, dignity, and the chance to dream.
